CPSI’s “Roadmap to the Future” has been designed with our new technologies, named “C3-2R” for short. What does this stand for?

  • Collect – collect the data from different sources
  • Connect – connect the data sources to a centralized data storage area
  • Correct – validate the data Report – report on the data
  • React – make informed decisions based on the data collected

Collective, this new solution set is named xDStudio, and is the new technology standard in Longitudinal Data Systems. Our AD management toolset, Visual CASEL, is still going strong, and scheduled for a complete facelift in 2010.

Our Vision

Our vision is to create products with exceptional quality backed up by exceptional support, now and for many years to come. Michelle Elia, our President, says it best:

"Our vision has always been to ultimately make it easier for teachers to teach, and for students to learn, and for the administrators to assist with that by getting the data they need. Our technologies revolve around the infrastructure of the system so that little things, like every student having their own network login and home directory, can help with classes, teachers, portfolios, and more."

Our History

CPSI started out, in 1989, as a hardware/software/network integrator. We did everything from cabling to building the computers, installing the computers, and setting up the network server to installing software and providing training. In 1992, we started the development of CASEL (Classroom Administrative System for Educational LANS) in response to a school district that wanted to manage logins and home directories for students on a Novell network.

We gained that school as a customer (and they remain a customer), and continued to build on the product itself. CASEL moved on to support Windows 3.11 on diskless workstations, adding features along the way.

In 1994, it became evident that CASEL was needed in more places than we could support with hardware and cabling, and we started selling the software to other vendors in Illinois and Wisconsin. In 1995, when Windows 95 was released, we added to the features and “Visual CASEL” was born. We still supported Novell networks only at this time. We also started to remove ourselves from hardware sales and support to allow more time for Visual CASEL support. In 1998, we added support for Windows NT networks and Windows 98 workstations.

Well, Active Directory from Microsoft was released in 2000. CPSI was asked by Microsoft Education to develop a version of Visual CASEL for Windows 2000 Server. We did, and we were part of the worldwide launch web cast for Windows 2000 Server in Redmond, Washington. We expanded the network features with this new product, adding features that would support rapid deployment of the Active Directory and semi-automated account management. This new release was called Visual CASEL 2000 (naturally!).

While we enjoyed the network infrastructure business, our customers wanted and needed more. So, in 2000, we started developing our solutions for Schools Interoperability Framework (SIFA). In late 2001, our xDStudio (previously called the CPSI-Connect Suite) was released. The release included the xDUA, xDZIS, and a SIF Agent for Visual CASEL. In 2007, our xDStore was released with xDTools, followed by the xDVault, xDAdHoc, and xDStAR.

We have continued to grow and expand. We now are the vendor for the SIF Longitudinal Data System project in Oklahoma, providing Student Testing Numbers for all 540 districts, and collecting data from these districts for analysis and decision making.
